Data Engineer
Type: Full-time Team: Data Engineering Reports to: Data Lead
We are looking for a Data Engineer to help us map and structure information about the U.S. electricity market. You will build and maintain ETL pipelines that ingest, normalize, and store data from ISOs/RTOs and other public sources, directly contributing to our core data products and M&A intelligence capabilities.
Key responsibilities
ETL and pipelines
- Build and maintain ETL pipelines to ingest data from ISOs/RTOs (MISO, PJM, ERCOT, SPP, and others)
- Parse, normalize, and validate large structured and semi-structured datasets
- Automate data extraction from public sources, regulatory filings, and queue publications
- Work hands-on with Apache Airflow for pipeline orchestration
Data quality
- Implement data validation checks and QA processes across pipelines
- Detect and resolve data anomalies, duplicates, and inconsistencies
- Contribute to monitoring and alerting mechanisms for early issue detection
- Maintain documentation of data sources, schemas, and transformation logic
Market mapping
- Map U.S. electricity market data including interconnection queues, generation assets, and ownership structures
- Research and integrate new data sources related to renewable energy projects
- Support the expansion of our data products, datasets, and data APIs
- Collaborate with product and ops to translate data needs into pipeline requirements
Infrastructure
- Manage and optimize PostgreSQL databases for large-scale energy data
- Work within Azure cloud infrastructure for deployment and storage
- Identify and address bottlenecks in data capture and processing workflows
- Design performant data models for structured and relational energy datasets

Required qualifications
- 2+ years of hands-on Python development in a data engineering context
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL and relational data modeling
- Proven ability to work with large data volumes and build performant pipelines
- High proficiency in English in an English-first technical environment
- Proactive, self-driven, and comfortable working autonomously
Nice to have
- Experience in the energy sector (utilities, renewables, ISOs/RTOs)
- Familiarity with Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tools
- Experience working with Azure cloud services
- Experience with web scraping and data extraction (Playwright, Selenium, etc.)
- Familiarity with LLMs for data extraction and normalization
